To celebrate the National Wine Show’s 50th anniversary, Canberra will transform into the nation’s wine capital with the inaugural launch of the National Wine Festival of Australia, a four-day festival that toasts Australian viticulture with wine tastings, masterclasses, themed dinners and special events from 12-15 June 2025.

Offering wine lovers the unique opportunity to taste the more than 900 award-winning Australian wines under the one roof, the festival is the perfect excuse to extend your visit and taste the flavours of the Canberra District Wine Region and explore Canberra’s exciting dining scene.

Crushing it: Canberra District Wine Region
An easy 35 minute drive from the CBD, Canberra’s boutique wine region is home to 140 vineyards and more than 50 wineries. Taste your way around the region and tempt your tastebuds with cool climate varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Noir and Shiraz and unique varieties like Tempranillo and Gruner Veltliner at Clonakilla, Helm Wines, Mount Majura and Eden Road.

When you’re ready to refuel, grab lunch at the new mediterranean-inspired Shaw Estate Restaurant or enjoy a picnic and charcuterie board from Poacher’s Pantry or Heywood Cellar Door & Restaurant. And if you’re feeling a little adventurous, hop on a Canberra Wine Region E-Bike and explore Murrambateman on two wheels.

After dark: wining down in Canberra's wine bars
The capital’s wine bars are the perfect destination to linger a little longer so whether you're chasing a bold red or something a little lighter, there’s a glass (or two) waiting for you at one of the cosy wine bars dotted through-out the city. Enjoy your favourite drop at late-night wine bars and discover hidden gems like Dear Prudence, HighJinksAmici Wine Bar, Wine Room and 11e Cave.

Wining and dining: foodies paradise
With its eclectic mix of culinary styles, cuisines and experiences, Canberra is a foodies paradise and what better way to enjoy a glass of wine than to pair it with an exquisitely prepared meal at one of Canberra’s finest eateries such as Italian and Sons, Corella, Vincent and eightysix.

Take it away: unique bottle shops
Drink-and-dine-in bottle shops have become a unique trend world-wide and Canberra is leading the charge locally with a handful of boutique bottle shops where you can grab your favourite drop to go. Pop into Paranormal Wines (Campbell), Blackhearts & Sparrow (Braddon) and Cork & Glass (Yarralumla) and taste the wide range of rare and unique local drops on offer before buying a bottle (or two) to take home.
