Joyous Lo Hei at cafe TOO
Forever a highlight of the Lunar New Year, Island Shangri-La offers several ways for families and friends to enjoy the joyous, boisterous tradition of lo hei, with every ingredient carrying a significant, auspicious meaning to welcome greater abundance and prosperity.
The perfect place for families to celebrate together, cafe TOO is offering a special Lo Hei station where guests can make their own. The Lo Hei station offers a variety of premium ingredients including Hokkigai, salmon, tuna, octopus, jelly fish and all the requisite vegetables and flavourings. Savour auspicious hot dishes such as nourishing Lotus Root Soup with Pork Trotters, Tongue and Spare Ribs; Braised Seasonal Vegetables with Conpoy; Red-Braised Pork Knuckle with Eggs, Traditional Buddha Jumps Over the Wall and more – a feast of abundance and good fortune.

Ming Pavilion: A Fujian Style Celebration
Ming Pavilion, helmed by Chef Jack Lam, invites families to partake in an exceptional dining experience to honour the traditions and celebrations of Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year Set Menu features a culinary journey that captures the spirit of prosperity and good fortune typical of the festive season, including a traditional Lo Hei. Ming Pavilion has created a Fujian style Lo Hei with a vibrant salad consisting of matsutake mushrooms, crispy taro, and a combination of live Japanese sea whelk and He Tian chicken, served with a special yuzu sauce. Family and friends come together to toss the ingredients while exchanging good wishes, representing the act of inviting abundance and happiness into one’s life for the coming year.
This year, Ming Pavilion is also launching "Poon Choi" for Lunar New Year. Symbolizing abundance and prosperity, it is handmade and features premium ingredients such as whole abalones, Hokkaido dried scallops, golden dried oysters, and a variety of classic ingredients.

Michelin-starred Summer Palace presents a festive menu with seasonal recommendations. Delight in auspicious dim sum creations such as "Nian Nian You Yu" Soup Dumplings with assorted diced meat, abalone and conpoy; "Long Feng Cheng Xiang" Vietnamese-style Rice Rolls with deep-fried crispy shrimp; and "Zhao Cai Jin Bao" Deep-fried Turnip Cakes with diced aired dried meat and brown garlic. Lion Dance Performance & Giant Lo Hei Event
Every year on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the hotel holds a traditional The Giant “Lo Hei” Event. “Lo Hei”, known as the prosperity toss in Chinese, is a vibrant communal ritual involves tossing symbolic fresh ingredients while reciting auspicious phrases to usher in good fortune. A spectacular Lo Hei table extending the full length of our hotel lobby will take center stage, accommodating 188 guests for an auspicious collective celebration.
Additionally, the hotel will hold a Traditional Lion Dance Performance, allowing guests to enjoy this captivating traditional art form in the hotel lobby as they welcome the auspicious new year, seeking good luck and dispelling negativity. The lion dance will also take place in various restaurants within the hotel, allowing diners to experience the lively festive atmosphere up close.

These events will take place in the hotel’s Lobby Lounge from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and are ideal activities for families and friends. One of the most important traditions during Chinese New Year, JEN Hong Kong will have its Traditional Lion Dance on 18 February. In Chinese culture, the lion dance is performed at Chinese festivals or big occasions to bring good fortune and chase away evil spirits. They are also believed to bring prosperity and good luck.
